I love helping people. The best moments I have as a blogger and writer is when I can help and inspire people to travel. This is why I love what I do – I get to help people let go of their fears, help them by giving tips or just offering some advice. Since starting this blog almost three years ago, I have received numerous comments and emails from readers who either have a specific question or travel problem.
In this new series, I will be sharing a few questions from readers and my responses to them so other readers can also benefit. Here’s a question I received last week:
Q & A #1 – Travelling to Spain
Q: I stumbled upon your blog when I was searching for some advise for traveling to Spain. I am South Asian from Toronto and planning a trip with some girlfriends hopefully mid-April. I had a few questions I hope you could answer for me.
1) Did you stay at a hotel or went with an Air bnb type accommodation? How much per night is reasonable?
2) Who gave you your private tapas tour? We have a vegetarian in the group so is doing this a good idea?
3) Name of the place where you watched the Flamenco?
4) Name of the Hammam/Spa?
5) What was your overall budget?
I read that you have been to Spain before this trip as well. So we are planning to go for 2 weeks or atleast 10 days. Could you give me some tips to navigate around Ibiza?

A: Thanks for checking out Desi Globetrotter. Always happy when readers find my blog useful.
I’ve travelled to Spain in April before and it’s a great time to go. During my first trip in 2006, I travelled solo for three weeks around Spain staying at hostels and meeting people as I went along. My itinerary then included Barcelona, Valencia, Malaga, Sevilla, Granada before going to the Algarve Coast in southern Portugal then down to Morocco. One of my most memorable trips, so going with friends you will have a blast!
I have not been to Ibiza yet, but with any type of travel just make sure you’re leaving enough time for getting to the airport. With 10 days, don’t try to rush too much, you will get tired otherwise.
When in Madrid a few months ago, I was travelling with my husband for the week.
1) We stayed in a hotel – Hotel Atlantico on Gran Via, central location – we got a package deal for flight and hotel so it was reasonable. You can also use booking.com to find accommodation, but just first research the most central area you want to be in and go from there.
2) For the tapas tour, we booked that through our hotel. It typically isn’t a private tour, but that night no one else was booked so we had the tour guide to ourselves. There are tons of tapas tours to take with various companies, get a recommendation when you are there.
3)With the Flamenco show – we randomly found that while walking around and you’ll find tons of taverns, but try to find a small, intimate one. The one we went the dancers were really good. It’s called La Taberna Mister Pinkleton: http://www.latabernademisterpinkleton.com.
4) For the Hammam – there are a few locations of this same brand in Spain. We went to the one in Madrid: http://madrid.hammamalandalus.com/en/
5) Overall budget – hard to say as it can vary. You can easily go there on a budget or spend more. It’s really the food and small things like water, snacks and tours you’ll want to budget for. Even though it’s in euros, the grocery stores are cheaper than in Canada.
Hope that helps you with your trip planning!
